Start with structure, not signals
Most beginners look for a signal before they understand the structure of the chart. Structure is simply the sequence of highs and lows. Higher highs and higher lows describe an uptrend; the opposite describes a downtrend; anything else is a range.
Mark the levels that mattered
- The high and low of the previous session
- The level price reacted to more than once
- The gap or spike that nobody filled
A level is only interesting if the market has already shown you it cares about it.
Then ask what would invalidate your read
If you cannot say what would prove your read wrong, you do not have a read — you have a hope. Practise the whole loop on synthetic data first, where nothing is at stake.
